The Myanmar government announced that about 25,000 inmates -- more than a quarter of the country’s prison population -- would be released to mark the nation’s New Year holiday in April. There have been growing calls to ease pressure on overcrowded jails as Covid-19 fears grip the Southeast Asian country.
