Drawing Close - THE REAL FOCUS OF THE SACRIFICIAL SYSTEM! Parashat Vayikra - Rabbi Brian Bileci

Rabbi Brian Bileci starts a new sermon series, “DRAWING CLOSE,” in a message called “THE REAL FOCUS OF THE SACRIFICIAL SYSTEM” from Parashat Vayikra ויקרא in the book of Leviticus (1:1-6:7). The real reason for the sacrificial system is that the Father in heaven needed a teaching tool to show all mankind how to come into His presence, by bringing a gift as a vehicle to draw close to him. The actual Hebrew word for offering is “korban” קרבן from the root K-R-V קרב karav, means to “draw close.” So we could coin a phrase, and call an offering a “draw-close thing,” used as a vehicle by which the distant worshipper could come closer to His holiness. These gifts or offerings, therefore, represent consecration, unification, and thanksgiving, before they are ever defined as sacrifices for atonement or forgiveness.
