I Recognized A Dirty Hobo I Saw On TV. It Was My First Love

I Recognized A Dirty Hobo I Saw On TV. It Was My First Love Hi, guys. My name is Samantha, I'm 25 years old. Recently, I decided to help my old friend, but it destroyed my family. I think I made the right decision though, because this man could have died without me.

I was 24 years old then. I had just recently gotten married, and I felt wonderful. The night it all started, I was sitting at home with my husband, Mike, and we were watching TV. I don't even remember the name of that program, but it showed the lives of people in different countries. This episode featured Australia, and specifically showed the lives of homeless people there. One of them agreed to give an interview. And at that moment, my heart almost jumped out of my chest. My high school boyfriend was on my TV screen. Of course, he didn't look like I remembered him. He had a long beard, bruises, and was all dirty, but I definitely recognized him.

In just a second, I dived into the memories of my youth. I will change my boyfriend`s name so that he can remain anonymous. Dave and I were almost 17 when we met. We just bumped into each other at the supermarket, and... You could call it love at a first sight. I was just in paradise in this relationship. I remember our first kiss very well, and the first night we spent together. Now, it's funny to remember how we hid from our parents, and Dave snuck into my room through the window.

But then our lives changed a little. We started hanging out with older guys, and their influence was not positive at all. We've been to a bunch of different parties, and we've encountered alcohol over and over. That's where our problems started. We just couldn't control ourselves. We would go to a party and just half an hour later we would be totally wasted. Of course, this could not go unnoticed by our parents, and very soon Dave told me the bad news. His parents said that I was a bad influence on him, and they forbade him to see me at all. After these words, I burst into tears like a little girl, because I thought that this meant the end of our relationship. However, in the next second, Dave hugged me and said that he would never leave me, no matter what his mom and dad said.

So we dated in secret. But it didn't solve the problem of our addiction, because our lifestyle remained the same. But time passed, and we had to prepare for a new stage in our lives. I knew I wanted to be an economist, and I had to prepare for college. So I made every effort to stop drinking and spend my time studying. But Dave was weaker, and he could not give up this bad habit. Our friends called me so many times to pick Dave up from a party because he was too drunk. And every time we would argue about it, and I'd try to persuade him to stop drinking. But all this was to no avail. And one day he reached a critical point.

One night I got another call from our friends. Dave was very sick and needed help. And it seems that no one had enough brains to call an ambulance. So I quickly took my dad's car and rushed to our friend`s house. I called an ambulance on the way, and when I arrived, Dave was unconscious and being put into the ambulance. He had severe alcohol poisoning. Of course, I rushed to the hospital too. About an hour later, Dave's parents arrived. He was all right, but it didn't change anything. Dave's mom and dad just destroyed me. They shouted and insulted me. They blamed me for what happened. But I wasn't even at that party! And I was trying to persuade him to stop drinking! But it happened, and I couldn't change anything.

Unfortunately, I never saw Dave again after that night. As far as I know, his parents took him to some rehab after that. And a couple of months later, when I was already in college, I got a message from him. He said that his parents sent him to college on the other side of America, and now they had complete control of his life. They even read his Facebook messages, so we couldn't keep communicating. It was very painful, and I missed him so much. Besides, I really felt guilty about what happened. In the end, he had started drinking alcohol because of me.

Five years later, I met my husband, and my life was completely different. And suddenly I see this ghost from the past on TV. Imagine how many thoughts simultaneously exploded in my head. What happened to him? Why did he become homeless? What was he doing in Australia? This crazy cocktail kept me awake until the morning. Obviously, if he got into this situation, everyone in his life had turned away from him. I should have helped him.

I spent most of the day with my phone in my hand. I called the TV channel that aired this show, then called the production team that created it.
