THE RAZOR'S EDGE: Philomena Marano Gallery Tour

THE RAZOR'S EDGE: Philomena Marano Gallery Tour “The Razor’s Edge” aptly describes Philomena Marano’s practice of cutting paper as it also exposes the nature of her subjects, which are nearly always situated on the edges of cities and towns. “I wish to connect immediately with the viewer’s visual and emotional experience bringing joy, thrills and titillated fears up from our deepest recesses to the front of our consciousness,” she says. A new Sarasota resident who is originally from Brooklyn, Marano says she found a deep connection to her Coney Island roots within “this city of circus history and lore.” She earned her BFA at Pratt Institute and is a former artist assistant to preeminent artist, Robert Indiana, where she learned the cut paper medium that she continues to explore in her work today. Her work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections, including the Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of the City of New York, NYU Langone Art Program and the Coney Island Museum.
